John Spike

John Thomas Spike is an eminent American art critic, art historian, museum curator, author and lecturer, known for his focus on Old Masters before 1800 and a wide range of modern artists. In 1992, Spike published the definitive biography, Fairfield Porter: An American Classic. From 1999-2005, Spike directed the Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. Among contemporary figurative painters, Spike has published essays about Coleen Browning, Antonio Ciccone, Jacob Collins, Mikel Glass, Angel Ramiro Sanchez and Nelson Shanks. Born in New York City, Spike has balanced his career between residences in the United States and Florence, Italy.
